What? A lamp in the bird feeder? I took this photo about 4 PM. Check the photo below to see 'the rest of the story.'
I loved how the sinking sun threw light onto the glass of the bird feeder, and of course I had to grab my camera. Late afternoon light is fleeting, and a few seconds makes all the difference.

Do you feed the birds? It's not exactly cheap, but our first real snow arrived November 10. Where else would the birds find food with all this snow cover? Birds are such beautiful creatures. I'm so thankful that our loving and generous God gave us birds to enjoy. I'm also thankful that my husband has never called bird seed 'shredded money, ' as he has nicknamed the dog food. Grrrr.

ReplyDeleteIs there anything prettier than a cardinal in the snow? When we lived at our old house, our back yard was full of cardinals in the winter. How they lift one's spirits.

ReplyDeleteJudy, so delightful. The cardinal and the jay...what a catch! We do feed the birds, and my hubby spends a lot on the feed. I love all but those darned white wing doves. (or pigeons, as I call them).

ReplyDelete"Shredded money". Good one. I'm glad my husband doesn't think that as well. Your photos are gorgeous. I love the one of the barn and silo with the setting sun. Yes, I'm feeding the birds and am getting lots of chickadees, a few finches and juncos, downey woodpeckers and mourning doves. I enjoy watching them at the feeders and in the yard. Oh. I forgot the squirrels. I'm feeding them too, apparently. Wonderful photos!
ReplyDeleteI do feed the birds because if I don't then they are in my coop trying to get at the chicken feed. I enjoy keeping a feeder in the tree outside my front window. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

between dog food, horse feed, bird seed and scratch feed, i spend more than i do on myself. but it's worth it. :)

ReplyDeleteMy neighbor feeds birds and they fly into my yard and hide in the bushes from the hawk that frequently patrols the area.
I love your photos (always) and especially like that you know what kind of birds are eating at your table! I know cardinal and blue jay, eagles, osprey, and Florida crackers...that's the extent of my knowledge. We don't need to feed the birds in Florida. They have a steady supply from nature, all year long. I love that you and so many others do, though, so they don't starve in the ice and snow!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome how the setting sun illuminated that birdfeeder. When I first looked at your post I went "w-h-a-a-a-t???" LOL. I just love watching the birds on our feeders and the blue jays don't come around much although I hear them shreaking. There's also nothing more beautiful than a bright red cardinal in the snow!
ReplyDeleteWow, the sun DOES make it look lit up inside! SO pretty, like a birdie living room! And my next favorite is the Blue Jay and the Cardinal. We have a squirrel proof feeder that works great, we need to get it out and set it up now...

Beautiful pictures Judy. You are right about the light in the evening it changes very quickly. Yes I feed the birds all year round. Sometimes they eat me out of house and home. I love watching them. Have a happy Thanksgiving.

I feed the birds, the birds toss seeds down for the squirrels, and then the hawk takes out an unsuspecting visitor in a hurry! Bird seed is getting more and more expensive, so I tend to make a quiet trip to the store to by it alone rather than buy it with my husband. Less arguments :) Wendy x

ReplyDeleteWonderful photos! I wondered about that light. Looks so cool as if it was a real light for them. My husband is the bird feeder and patiently repairs the bird feeder when the deer or squirrels attack it.

ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful photos, Judy. I know what you mean about it not being cheap as I seem to be filling feeders every four days at our lot where we are building. At least they will know where to come on those cold wintery days. Love the cardinal and blue-jay photo. My favorite little bird is the chickadee. Soft and pudgy. :)

ReplyDeleteyou have a pretty snowy bird crew. we use to feed the bird. but the squirrels got to silly. the sad thing is ...they will return looking for the feeder. & i will say to them sorry little guys... you will have to speak to the squirrels ... they are at fault. i wish there was a way to feed the birds without squirrels ruining the fun. & yes, the feeder was suppose to be squirrel-proof. but i think squirrels are to smart to be "squirrel-proof" on any item they wish to check out. little goobers. kind of like cats, they are so smart. or at least curious. ( :

Since I've discovered that you have cardinals in your gardens in America, I'm very jealous! They are so beautiful. Brittany isn't cold at all, but I usually feed the birds in January and February when the ground is frozen.

ReplyDeleteI do feed the birds but the squirrels end up coming and driving Tucker crazy. :) I was just noticing the effects of the sunrise on the oaks yesterday morning while walking my Tucker. It was magical.

ReplyDeleteI love feeding birds. My family and I are "backyard birders." When my elder daughter was two years old, she could identify about five different birds! All the ones you photographed come to my feeders, too. But juncos have not arrived here, yet. I'm in Georgia. I look forward to seeing them, though!
