Beautiful West Tanfield on the River Ure
View from a former gatehouse, which you see in the first photo on the far left.
See the pretty bridge in this photo? That's where I stood to get the first pic.

An entry in Wikipedia states, 'The village has a monument called the Marmion Tower, a 15th century gatehouse which belonged to the now-vanished manor house formerly home to the Marmion family. At first floor level there is a fine example of an oriel window. The Anglican church next to the tower contains monuments to the Marmion family. The tower is now in the care of English Heritage.
Typical of houses in the area
I'd love to visit later in the season when there are flowers in those pots and on the trellis!

I love pub signs. Next time I'll be taking many more close-up shots of signs!
I say 'next time,' as in 'next time we have a sound economy, next time gasoline prices have dropped, next time airfare to London or Manchester isn't outrageous.'

These are lovely! I would love to visit Europe sometime. Thanks for sharing! I love their villages!
Beautiful pictures!
Praying for you "the peace of God which surpasses all understanding." Phil.4:6-7 are my life verses.
Well now this just made my heart flip flop a little. I have a small collection of photos of British signs...they do have a way with words, don't they?
Gorgeous photos, Judy! And this is a village I've never even heard of; would love to visit it one day, when as you said "next time ..."
You know how much I love Fridays over here, Judy! That second picture is just beautiful! Of course, they all are, but that one makes me extra happy!
Love the houses! Have to look West Tanfield up on the map.
I want to live there!
The British do seem to be polite about everything, don't they? I could never do that. Too opinionated and head-strong. LOL
delightful - you'll need to come over quick if you photograph pub signs as they are closing down at a rapid rate all over the country.. Judyx
You continue to educate me with these great photos. Even though I been to nearby Masham & Middleham, I have never heard of this village before. Funny I just took a photo yesterday in a Haworth cafe window saying "well behaved dogs welcome"!
I love this village - I've had several happy times in the Bull Inn. It's nice and cosy inside. Great to be reminded of good memories. Sorry my visits to your blog are fleeting these days - will get back to normal soon!
What a nice change of scenery! You are making me miss England!
OMG, these are fantastic pictures. It is so wonderful seeing pictures of our beloved England.
Another fun visit to England with your wonderful photos. Have you read the Richard Jury mystery series by Martha Grimes? Each book has the title of a pub. They're great fun.
Really enjoyed this post my friend.
