Back in Blogland

Plum Tree

Our poor little plum tree. It is not pretty, parts of it have had to be cut off and it looks ridiculous, but I've never had the heart to take it down. And look how it rewards us every spring! Such delicate little pink blossoms that will give us plums that eventually fall to the ground so that Misty can eat them and get the runs. Oh well.

So here I am, back in blogland. It's been a loooooooooooooong time! Ugh! What an ordeal it was to get everything restored on my laptop after the hard drive crashed about a week ago! After three separate and long sessions with three Carbonite tech people and a computer wiz in Cameron, it was discovered that my files wouldn't restore properly because something deep in the innards of my computer wouldn't allow it to happen. It threw it into 'error' mode, and once that happened, it corrupted something. At least that's what the final Carbonite guy told me. Once the genius discovered that and remedied the situation, my files backed up in only about 12 hours. Yes, twelve hours! It could have something to do with the fact that there were 105 GB that needed restoring. That's what happens when you upload multiple camera cards, file them by month, then resize, crop, etc. and file them again by subject.

I'd be interested in knowing how you back up photo files. Is there anything stable, that doesn't deteriorate or get corrupted after a while? If so, that's probably what I need to do. I can't tell you the last time I printed photos.

I did a little cleaning out last night, i.e. getting 20,000 emails and 7,000 unread emails deleted from my Inbox. That cleared up 14.9 GB of space right there. I'm determined to be better about cleaning it out periodically, like maybe every night.

Maple Seeds. How have we never before noticed that they're so red?
or maybe they're just much redder this year?

Early Girl tomatoes, before second transplant

Last night I re-transplanted the Early Girls. They're looking pretty good. Of course, they look just like the photo above except that the stems are buried and only the leaves show above the soil line. I hope they can get nice, thick stems and survive until June 2 or so, when I can set them out in the garden.

My sweet doggie, who hates to go outdoors
And honestly, I feel just about as motivated as he does today. That huge dog loves it when I lie on the floor and use his belly as a pillow.

Today, my daughter told me that she had read the following, 'Keep only what you find useful or beautiful.' Now that I've cleaned out my Inbox, I need to start on the house. Bridger and Misty, Lionel and Tuppence can relax. I find them all to be both useful and beautiful!

Hi Judy,
Glad you got your computer sorted. Have you ever thought of having an external hard drive as a back up. I use that for all my pictures and such. It's a small little device I plug in and "copy" over the pictures I want to save. That way your photos are stored if something would happen with your hard drive. Because that is a pain.
Have a lovely day!
Hugs,
Eva

So glad you're back! Computer maintenance is a chore. Nothing is fool proof. I keep double backups on external hard drives and rotate them into the safe deposit box at the bank. I've spent hours and hours scanning old photographs from all branches of the family and don't want to lose all that work.

Welcome back!!! Your daughter's right - we let our lives get so cluttered with email, chores, and other things that aren't inspirational. Spring cleaning all around!!!

Welcome back...

For now, I burn my pictures to discs, but not often enough. I need to go though my pictures on my computer and get rid of the ones I don't want or need any longer.

I've been getting rid of stuff around here, too. If I don't love it, it goes out the door. Someone else can love it. =)

First, I'm so glad the pets are safe from the purge. LOL Glad you're back online on your own computer! I back up my photos and everything else via an external hard drive. It has worked beautifully. So far.

I missed your posts. I use an external hard drive to backup all of my computer so if it crashes, I can use it. So far, I have been lucky enough not to have to use it.

Your back - I am so GLAD! I've missed you.

You had 2700 emails to read? I don't think I've ever had that many.

Love, sandie

Great pictures. My computer crashed last year and I went without for six weeks until a computer whiz friend fixed it. I didn't realize how dependent I'd become on my computer until I couldn't use it. I back up my pictures on an external hard drive.

I'm sorry you've been through so much. We all hate dealing with computers crashing. We use an external hard drive to store photos and you can get the little thumb drives to save them, too. We keep them in more than one place...that's for sure! It's a lot of work but it's worth it! Enjoy your week! ♥

Oh my, that sounds like a nightmare. I have to say, I've nothing backed up. Afraid too. Afraid I'll goof and mess up my blog.

Welcome back, Judy! Glad you got that all straightened out.

Love the pic of your sleepy pooch. Hmmmm, he does look like he would enjoy chasing a chicken or two! :o)

Have a great day.

Oh my, computers are always a pain when they go on the fritz. We just finished getting my Dad a new computer. Thanksfully, it wasn't as hard as we were thinking, thanks to network cables.
My sister has an external hard drive for all her photos too. I just have a flash drive.
Love the picture of your plum tree. Fruit trees are so lovely in the spring. I think the seeds and flowers on trees are coming out earlier this year, it seems like the leaves haven't yet caught up and all you see is red and yellow flowers or pods.

I actually have an external hard drive I hook up to my computer about once a week. It backs up all the files there (all I do is plug it in, it knows what files are new since the last time I updated it). That way if my computer crashes, I still have all my pictures, music, etc on that. :)

So glad you are back, missed you!!

Sorry to hear that about your computer problems ... must be spreading across the Atlantic from me !! It's good to hear that it's sorted now.

About the time I upgraded my Hard Drive to a 650 GB, I changed to Aperture after losing my original photo library following my temporary photoshop experience. The updated version was no-where near as good & I couldn't go back. The new internal drive wouldn't sync with my back up external drive as it wanted to back up everything including an extra mystery 50 GB. It was only resolved when I consulted the experts & deleted everything to start again. I'll e-mail you later in the weekend or earlier next week with the progress of the other things.

Finally I love how you finish the post !!
