Murder on the Orient Express

I didn't think it was possible that I could embrace the idea of anyone else playing Hercule Poirot after having watched hours and hours of David Suchet in that role, but I was wrong. Kenneth Branagh made it work. And the photography and scenery alone in this new 'Murder on the Orient Express' is worth the price of the ticket.

In case you haven't watched 'Murder on the Orient Express' with David Suchet, the above is a YouTube video of the entire movie. One of my favorites.

And 'Darkest Hour,' about Britain, Churchill in WWII is also coming to theaters in November. Good grief. We hadn't been to a movie since 'Bridge of Spies' and now there are two so close together that I want to see on the big screen. Unheard of.

And yeah, I still prefer David Suchet.

P.S. Another word about 'Murder...':  Everything about the new movie is beautiful, BUT at the end, Kenneth Branagh didn't come anywhere close to portraying the anguish of spirit that David Suchet did in making his decision. If you've seen them both, you'll know what I mean.

Good Morning. Thank you for sharing the video and review. It's been too long since I've seen a good movie. I have a special art offer on my post if you have a chance to visit.
Enjoy your day.

I do want to see that movie- it’s been a long time since a truly classic movie has been made. I’ve never seen the series- something I should watch as winter sets in! Your soaps are wonderful!

I was in doubt about this one too Judy as I am a big Suchet fan. I could not watch the Adam Dahlgleish series when Roy Marsden no longer played the poet detective. But I love Judi Dench so I thought I might give it a try!! Thanks for the review.

I like Martin Shaw who took over the role of Adam Dalgleish, but he still seemed like an imposter. I wish they'd bring back the old Roy Marsden version at least on DVD.

I am the odd blogger out. I just can't watch these types of movies. also I have never seen Wizard of Oz, or Sound of Music and many others that the whole world loves... i don't read classics either except for the few in high school they forced me to read.

Yes it is hard to see remakes with different people playing the role of Porot. Coincidently we are going this afternoon to see the same movie. Our new place puts us living three miles from the theater. My wife has taught me to like all the mysteries shows and I too am a fan.

Oh- Thanks for letting me know. I have not wanted to see the "new" version because the old one was so engaging. I hope you have a great day, Judy. xo Diana

David Suchet definitely wins. I really don't like the moustache in this new version.

You are the expert on all things British so I take your review of this movie seriously! We rarely go to the movies. Maybe I can talk Joe into this one!

I wondered how I would feel about someone else playing Poirot...can't decide if I want to see it or not. You make me think I might want to.

I'm still on the fence about whether I want to watch this movie or not. I did just download a game on my iPad a couple of days ago called Mahjong Crimes, and it's based off Murder on the Orient Express. It's free to play if you want to check it out.

I'm hoping to see the new Christie adaptation. The trailer looks great!

Good feedback, CM. We haven't seen the new 'Murder on the Orient Express' yet, but word on the street is that it's excellent. Haven't seen the Churchill movie yet, either (though I know how it ends...) - but we did get to see 'Goodbye Christopher Robin' the other week, and gave it a kind of plug on ABAB.

I am dying to see this movie as it's been a while since I've seen a good movie. Hopefully, I will be able to see this but I've just been so busy every weekend. Thanks for the heads up about this movie!
Enjoy the week and have a Happy Thanksgiving.
