Human Intelligence

Sunrise, September 10, 2010

I always take my dogs out early in the morning. Some mornings, such as the morning of September 10, we witnessed the beautiful sunrise pictured above. The quiet morning and the special beauty of the sunrise always makes me think of our Creator - Who allows us to live on His earth, and to Whom our very existence, every breath and every heartbeat, is owed.

I recently read an interesting article by Dr. John C. Lennox, professor of mathematics and philosophy of science at the University of Oxford. He is author of God's Undertaker: Has Science Buried God? Tabletalk Magazine carried the article, Beyond Reason? in its September issue.

'Although science with all of its power cannot address some of the fundamental questions that we ask, nevertheless the universe contains certain clues as to our relationship to it, clues that are scientifically accessible. The rational intelligibility of the universe, for instance, points to the existence of a Mind that was responsible both for the universe and for our minds. It is for this reason that we are able to do science and to discover the beautiful mathematical structures that underlie the phenomena we can observe. Not only that, but our increasing insight into the fine-tuning of the universe in general, and of planet earth in particular, is consistent with the widespread awareness that we are meant to be here. This earth is our home...'(Read the rest of this article.)

This Earth IS our home and more people should take a little time out of their day to appreciate it like you :) What a beautiful picture of the sunrise!

Just stopping by to say thank you for your encouraging comments. This has been a busy time for us, and I'm not reading blogs much, but I'll be back. :)

What a beautiful picture! I saw a glorious sunset last night, it was so beautiful that it seems almost too good to be true -- but yes, we are meant to be here, and meant to see these things. :)

Did you read the Tabletalk article in the issue about art (goodness, beauty, truth - I can't remember the month, now)? There was an incredible article in there about how the transitory nature of some things is what gives them their beauty and calls up a response in us. Sunsets and sunrises fit into this category -- they are SO fleeting, but we always want to keep them, somehow! We want to be IN that beauty, but the ethereal nature of that beauty only makes it more valuable. God lavishes these things on us. It's a creative effort that is gone almost the moment you see it... it's dying before our eyes... but He's not stingy with it. Some people never notice, and some are never thankful, but every day He pours out the colors again! :)

That was an excellent article, definitely a keeper!

Amen~! We are doing our part out here on the farm to conserve soil and restore the ground. If we didn't, we would not be able to grow crops for very long!

Beautiful, beautiful photo my friend! We are so blessed to be able to behold this beauty. I printed out the article and am going to spend time later to read it in full and meditate on what I have read. Thanks for sharing. :)

So glad I found your blog, Judy! What a beautiful picture, and what a beautiful thought. In the small group I'm in we were talking about exactly this last night--how the more we learn about science (my husband is a bioinformatician) the more it's so awesome to see the beautiful, intricate, incredible design behind everything. Have you read the Language of God, by Francis Collins? I haven't read it, but my husband talks about it a lot and it sounds like it talks about some similar things as the great article you linked.

Thanks for sharing! I loved reading this. Following your blog now! :)

What a great article! When I first heard that physicist and mathematician Professor Stepehn Hawking in his lastst book "Grand Design God" arrogantly claimed that God was not required for the creation or existence of the universes - I was absolutely stunned. Here's a deformed man with an amazing intellect (in some ways) and body systems pumping blood and eliminating his wastes and here he is thinking he, this world and universe are random acts? Like I said, I'm stunned. This article helped me put faith back in academia. Thank you Dr. Lennox.

Gorgeous picture! There's so much evidence for intelligent design. I don't understand how anyone could think otherwise.

That picture is beautiful! I love that time of the day. While there is a scientific approach that can be taken on this amazing earth, there is a much greater force that is above and beyond any kind of scientific/ mathematical explanation to everything. God is ever present in the smallest of insects all the way to the incredible painting in the sky you captured in the picture above. I would love to feature your blog in my Nestwork. I hope you come and join. Have a great day!

I also walk my dog early in the morning and enjoy the stillness and beauty of the morning. What an awewsome Creator God we serve. Truly His splendor is shown through His creation. We are so blessed to enjoy our earth that He designed for us.

Lovely photo and great thought! It's almost incomprehensible to imagine such an amazing creation could have just come together randomly, isn't it?!
