We left home on Tuesday the 22nd of November and spent the better part of the next two days driving to Denton, TX to visit our daughter and son-in-law who live there. My husband mostly drove; I mostly knitted and read. I have never had a good attitude about Kansas. I pretty much thought of it as a huge, flat land to get through on the way to something more interesting. This trip cured me of that.
Yes, it is pretty much flat, but...
After I read the sign (first photo), the more I thought about it, the more I was in awe of this amazing, vast and productive land that can feed so many cattle. It was like the Askrigg Common in North Yorkshire, on steroids. Every summer, a million head of cattle graze here on four and a half million acres! It is huge!
Some summer, I want to go there just to see the amazing sight of all those cattle...
and then come right back to Wisconsin where it will be a lot cooler!

By the way, Home Educating Family Publishing is having a giveaway of Visual Latin. I'm entering the giveaway, for sure! If you're interested in entering too, check it out HERE.

I've never been to Kansas but when you live on the East Coast it's nice to think about all that wide open space out west!
A couple of years ago, we drove through Kansas (my first time) on our way to East Texas (we went to Bridgeport). I was fascinated with the landscape of Kansas. Rolling hills as far as the eyes could see. Just beautiful...I loved Texas, too. =)
Coming from the West, I thought all the US was prairies and mountains--wide open spaces. Then I lived in several metropolitan areas, now in Phoenix--which is a hybrid--cotton fields surrounded by city. I do miss the vast expanse of land where your nearest neighbor is miles away.
Judy, I love the way you find beauty and food for thought everywhere you go. (And I envy you your ability to read in the car--I would be so sick!)
We always love the Kansas Turnpike! LOL! It is a very nice highway. It is always so fun to see new secenery. But I am glad it doesn't get that hot in Wisconsin!
I love the photo of the cattle - nice effect at the skyline!
Have a lovely weekend!
Beautiful.
Even though I can't see myself living in a flat place, the scope for sunset silhouettes would be tremendous as you have inspired me with here. It's like standing on the shore looking out on a vast ocean.
Interesting post! I'd like to see the fields of sunflowers!
Yep, that's our neighbor, Kansas. We've driven to Colorado a couple of times from Missouri and I've got to tell you, it seemed like it took forever to cross Kansas! I admire you for being such a good rider, I'm horrible!
So peaceful and beautiful!
