The words, 'rennet' and 'bacteria' and 'sour' and 'fungus' and 'coagulate' don't sound very appetizing, do they. Isn't it amazing that they are part of producing an exceptionally delicious product!
It's been a while since we spent time in Hawes in the Yorkshire Dales. What an interesting and fun way to spend a day!
Wensleydale Creamery employees hard at work...
...for the final delicious product!
Free samples, yea!
I'm posting these photos although it was a dreary day in Hawes when I took them. I'd love to someday take this trip again with my new camera, because it seems to be more able to bring in the necessary light, even on a darkish day. Someplace I read that you should not post sub-standard photos on your blog. Then again, if I didn't post these sub-standard photos, I wouldn't be posting any photos at all. So, because I'd like to give you an idea of what the little village of Hawes (where the Wensleydale Creamery is located) looks like, I'm including a few photos I took.
Look at that beautiful brick street. This is definitely a place to wear comfortable shoes.
Is this what they mean by 'a one horse town' ??
Barn and pen right on main street, or at least what seemed like the main street.
The rushing stream in March
People seem to maneuver their cars into every possible nook and cranny.
Evidently we beat the hoard of bikers to the cheese samples.
And I don't think they were headed to the Tea Room.
I'd love to rent a room at the back of that tea room.
Look at the view I'd have of the hills behind.
Herriot's B&B in Hawes
If you have plans to visit Hawes any time soon, be sure to book rooms at Herriot's B&B. Check it out. And don't forget to stop in at the Wensleydale Creamery to sample those delicious cheeses - and to buy a Wallace and Gromit poster, of course!

Inspired by 'Downton Abbey'
(quite a long way from Hawes)
Natural, Handcrafted Vegan Soap
A combination of Amber, Vanilla, and other remarkably delicious fragrances!

More cheese Grommit? :)
Oh my I heart cheese.
And your wonderful photos.
Take me away...
Sub standard photos is what my blog is based on. Lol
Woolie hugs
As soon as I saw the title I thought of Wallace and Grommit! This is one place I really need to visit...all those free tasters too! Chel
you had me at Wallace & Gromit. we love them!! super great. ( :
Ooooh I love a nice piece of Wensleydale with some pickle on a slice of fresh, crusty bread.
I might have to visit that place for some samples ;-)
Loved the cheese factory shots. Brought back memories of when I was in college. My summer job was working in a cheese factory making gouda and edam cheeses. I was a gouda girl, as opposed to a bada girl!!! (smirk)
What a charming town to visit!
Love Wallace and Grommit- and cheese lol
Cheers!
Well, your photos are NOT substandard, by any means. I so enjoy seeing the lovely things you choose to show to us! Cheese is my vice. I love cheese, and can eat it all day, every day. Cheese, cheese, cheese!! Love it! I can't not eat cheese. There, I've said it.
I love Wensleydale cheese, even if I haven't visited the village! I enjoyed following your steps and the pictures were really needed to see that beautiful place.
Great post, and pictures.
just added Hawes to my bucket list. an amazing town. I love all the photos and they are great. those stones and buildings are awesome. horse and bikers and CHEESE oh my..
I want to go there!!! :)
And if I didn't post sub-standard pictures, my blog would be pretty darn boring!! lol
I always love all your photos they are taken beautifully!! and I do love cheese!!
YAY!!! I was hoping Wallace and Gromet would make an appearance! I love strong cheeses, and am a fan of Wensleydale; I bought it for Jeremy when we were watching W&G videos nearly constantly - a good way to get kids to eat different foods ... :)
Your photos are great! That is a town I would love to visit.
I think the photos are beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. Looks like an amazing place.
Love all that stone! And your photos are certainly not sub-standard. They are authentic! It just gives us the feel for what England is really like!
Wow- cheese lovers dream! And I LOVE those cobbled streets. Thank you for sharing on the Photo Friday Blog hop- happy weekend to you!

Gorgeous photos - overcast day or not
Big hugs,

You know that post that I did today about the Birthday? Well that is the man that owns the Village Cheese. They make all sorts of cheese, and are always winning awards.
Jen
No need to apologise about a dreary day ... imagine what these streets are like in high summer ... you have captured the stones well.
On a similar note, I've only ever once been inside the creamery due to a host of reasons ... last tour is 3pm & arrived twice (due extensive Dales tour) at 3:10.
What I find funny about this post is the samples of cheese that you depict in an orderly manner in the shop ... I couldn't even see this counter & had to stretch my hand through a gap of arms to see if I could feel for something that was edible !!
