Vintage Rusty Stuff and Rubbish

Someone must have enjoyed riding this trike,
probably from the 1950s

Now a little update on the sweet surprise that I mentioned in my Mother's Day Hodgepodge. You may (or most likely not) remember this:

" 4. When did you last 'hit the mother lode'? What was it?

I'd say it was recently when Mr. Cranberry brought home a box of dishes he'd found on an abandoned demo site. I'm thinking he should load the mother load into the truck and take it to the landfill. Actually, I did keep a few, but not everything is a treasure, trust me. And it's not like Mother Hubbard's Cupboard is bare!

And I might not be so ungrateful if he'd not tossed three rubber rats at me - that he also found there. Scared me to DEATH!"

***

Well, well, well!  It seems that Mr. Cranberry thought he could get even more mileage out of those three disgusting rats, so one day, when I was walking toward the house, I noticed THIS ugly ratiness on my lovely rusty (and so welcoming) barbed wire wreath beside the back door.

Look at that beady little eye!

And lookie, lookie! Evidently, that clever Mr. Cranberry thought that a rat would enhance my experience of retrieving the daily mail. Other people have sweet morning glories winding their way up the post. I know. You'd think the Adams Family lived here.

I haven't yet come across the third rat, but so help me, depending upon when and where it shows up, you might find our names in the local police blotter.

I don't watch a lot of TV, but tonight's lineup on Wisconsin Public Television looks pretty irresistible:

7:00 PM: Coming Back With Wes Moore (How returning soldiers cope with life after war)

8:00 PM:  Escape From a Nazi Death Camp

9:00 PM:  Frontline (U.S. of Secrets, about the NSA data collection)

10:00 PM:  Nazi Mega Weapons

For details, see Wisconsin Public Television

Beady eyed rats, wonder where the 3rd one will end up! Clever Mr. Cranberry will no doubt find a place that's perfect!

Trust me, if you stick one in the back of his underwear drawer, the rattiness will quickly lose it's charm!

Or, alternatively, start a prank war.

So funny. You need to return the pleasure and hide them on him.
during the last presidential election I had fun with my husband. With all the election fliers you get in the mail, I cut out my favorite candidate. Needless to say it wasn't my husbands. I would tape it all over the place to surprise him. Then he did it back, hah. It was pretty funny.
Loved the barbed wreath.

I wouldn't be too pleased about discovering those rats, either, but oh, they would make for great decorations at Halloween time!

Maybe Mr. Cranberry brought you the dishes because he spied the rats and needed a good excuse to justify bringing them home! :D

You must never have a dull moment with your Jokester Husband!! Not fond at all of live or rubber rats but I'm loving your trike!!! I'm from the 50s and rode my trike up and down our dirt road with our chickens perched on the back - I've gotta find that picture!! Are you going to leave the trike in the same condition or paint it red????

Great patina on the 1950 era bike (and I remember that era very clearly). Its the rubber snakes that really freak me out.

I think I would have to find a way to "return the favor" to him! I do love that barbed wire wreath and the trike. I think I had one very similar when I was little (not quite so rusty...I think it was red).

I like the barbed wire wreath minus the rubber rat. What a tease your husband is. I'm very curious as to where the third rat might be. You gave me a few chuckles this afternoon Judy. :)

Love the tricycle, rust and all. I can't say anything about the rats, because I have a few in my Halloween decor.

Did you check your car?

This entire post had me in stitches, and I thank you for brightening my afternoon!

I can't wait until the 3rd rat turns up. I think you should leave the one on the mailbox...very classy! Probably scared the mail person, too!

Your husband seems to be a real rascal (another old word for you). I would be happy to take all those and drive them somewhere where he could not find them!

A great post... Of course I love all the rust and it's wonderful that so much fun is had at your house. I am believing that you give back as much as you get.

I'm getting a kick out of this post.

First love the photo of the old tricycle and then, the saga of the rats. [I like the one on the mail box post]

Iff you find it under your pillow, I'll help you with bail. LOL! You trust Frontline? Let me know.

LOL That was hilarious! And I do agree with many of your commenters - Mr. Cranberry needs to start finding those beady little eyes in places where HE'D least expect them!

Roan said...

Too funny! If I were you, I would be cooking up a little revenge fun for Mr. Cranberry. That tricycle brings back a ton of memories. We had one like that! I rode on the back while Bro O peddled. Thanks for linking up!

LOL! Who knows where that third rat will show up!

I remember having a rubber rat like that when I was younger, it sometimes used to freak me out if I was least expecting to come across it.
