Waking to the Hodgepodge and Good Fences

His mercies are new every morning.

1. The best part of waking up is:   God blessing, Darkness lifting, Sun Rising, Quiet surrounding, Birds singing, Coffee wafting.

2.  Given a choice, which animal interaction would you most like to experience (or for those non-adventurers...which would you dislike the least?)- Swim with the dolphins at one of several locations in the Florida Keys, a lion encounter ten minutes from Victoria Falls (Africa), or a day at a remote base camp high in the Big Sur wilderness via the Ventana Wildlife Society helping track California condors?

Definitely the lion encounter, while safely ensconced in a lion-proof observation post.

3. What is something you fear about 'old age'? What is something you look forward to?

What I fear about old age is coming to a time when my kids think they're smarter than I am. Oh wait...   Okay, let's reword that: coming to a time when my kids think they know, better than I, what's better for me. That will really irritate me, and they will be made well aware of that fact. I need to practice doing that nicely.

What I look forward to are travel perks, e.g. cheaper airfare, cheaper train fare, cheaper admissions. There better be some.

Shrewsbury Train Station

4. Hot sauce...are you a fan? If you answered yes, what's something you make/eat that must have hot sauce? On a scale of 1-10 how hot is too hot?

No. I'm not a fan of sauce of any kind - at all. But I do like hot food, so I like to spice things up with peppers.

5. It's been said that children learn what they live. What do you think children learn at your house?

I hope they learn that learning does not begin and end in the classroom, but is a lifelong enjoyment, and that you should surround yourself with good books and fun stuff. I hope they learn that following Jesus brings freedom and joy, not oppression and drudgery. I hope they don't learn where I hide the chocolate chips and mixed nuts.

6. What's your favorite movie with a number in it's title?

Elizabeth I  OR Two Weeks' Notice

7. Saturday (August 16th) is National Tell a Joke Day...share one here.

My all-time favorite joke:

Two guys are out in the woods hunting when one of them suddenly clutches his chest and falls to the ground. His eyes are rolled back in his head and he doesn't appear to be breathing.

His buddy takes out his cell phone and frantically calls 911. Gasping, he cries out to the operator, "My friend is dead!"

"Take it easy and calm down," the operator says. "Take a deep breath. Now first, we need to make sure he's dead."

There was a loud inhale and exhale, followed by a brief silence. Then a shot rang out. The guy comes back on the phone and says, "Yup, he's dead. Now what?"

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

I hate shopping for clothes, so it was with great hesitation that I spent perfectly good money on the dress in the photo above. I loved the fabric. It was wrinkled on purpose, soft, and comfortable. I thought it would make a great travel dress. I bought it big, thinking that like every other item of clothing I put in the washer and dryer, it would shrink.

Although it looked okay on me in the changing room at the store, it didn't seem to look the same on me in front of the mirror in my own bedroom. It looked too short, too young, too everything. Then I looked at the tag to find out laundering instructions (yes, I know, I should have done that at the store. I had just been eager to get out of there. Did I mention that I HATE shopping for clothes?)

The tag attached to the inside side seam of the dress reads:

'Dirty is the new clean: Wear more, wash less.'

Riiiight.

That should have been my  first clue that it was not for someone of my generation.

Back to my gray t-shirts and blue jeans.

Love those little feet.

And for another fence, see that Shrewsbury Train Station photo - although I think the fence in the photo was around the castle grounds.

A fun read but you had me at that sunrise! WOW!!! :)

The only kind of clothes shopping I enjoy doing is for my girls...I hate shopping for clothes for myself more than anything. Being that I'm only 4'11", things never fit right, anyway!

I do love shopping. Don't usually buy much, but love to look. Great job on all these comments, and I love the little blond guy by the fence. Adorable.

Lol...great story about that blue dress... I have never heard of such a thing!

I have never like clothes shopping for myself, but now more then ever! Now shopping for my daughter, or grandkids it's hard to stop me. Great pics....love the feet too! Enjoy your day!

I don't do dresses anymore, much more comfortable in cotton trousers and top...
and they could never sell it to me with those instructions anyway!!

Terri D said...

I don't do dresses anymore, but that would probably look cute with some black leggings under it! I love the color and the look. Don't toss it yet!!

It was a great Hodgepodge, and I like the two movies you mentioned, too!

laughing at the 'dirty' tag. yeah, i'm not gonna get into that trend, either. :)

loved your 'hiding' things. :)

thanks for the foot and fence photo!

Too funny about the tag!
Love seeing your beautiful photos and your answers.

Another fun Wednesday post!

Love your answer to #1...all of those things are blessings! Love #5 too. #3...eek! That is so hard. I would hate to get to that stage too...and I hope not to be that way with my parents or my mother-in-law. Is there ever a time when you need to intervene? Maybe so, but I'll err on the side of "hands off." (Not "hands off" as in uninvolved, but "hands off" as in "do what I say.") Okay, I'll stop. You got me thinking...

Those little feet are precious.

Judy, that was fun! And your joke was funny! I've never heard it. I hate shopping, period. If it weren't for mail order, I'd be walking around in rags and everything in my house would be worn out!

Let's see - what I like when I wake up is waking up! lol

Stopping by to say hello.

I think the tag on the dress made for a good joke! Dirty clothes irritate me. I enjoyed your random thoughts today Judy :)

The same two pairs of pants and four shirts for the past five years have held up like you wouldn't believe with a thousand washings. Cleanliness is next to...well, you know!

I like the wrinkles that do not need ironed...But I would hand wash it. The color is pretty. xoxo,Susie

Blue dress story-sounds like something that has happened to me.

That is a crazy label! Bizarre!

I think we share similar fears, though I am not afraid of an unsmashed blueberry.

Wonderful answer to what children learn at your house!

I loved your answers today, but then I always do!

I know what you mean about the children thinking they know what's best...I'm not looking forward to those days of 'old age' either!

"Dirty is the new clean?" Not for this old girl :) It WAS a cute blue dress though!

eileeninmd said...

I do not like shopping for clothes either..I agree with Terri, some legging under the dress it would look great.. I have never seen or read a label like that.. Love the photos, enjoy your day!

Your blog design is really pretty. Love the cranberries! Your joke about the hunters was good That dress label for care and cleaning was something else!

I love the sunrise photo and actually included that verse in my answer to #1. Also-I had to smile when I read your comment on my blog. In the photo that IS me on the left : ) My daughter on the right. Kinda made my day!

tlcukjourney said...

Haha! Dirty is not the new clean!! Who thinks of this stuff??

tlcukjourney said...

Oops. Hit send too quickly... also the joke? Took me a second:)
And since I was just in the Florida keys... I'd swim with dolphins there any day!! It's breath taking. ..
Much love, Tammy xx

I love the photo of the lad running around the fence!

"New clean!" Hmmm.

I liked your answers very much. Having children learn that learning doesn't stop in school...a great concept and oh so true!!!

Had to laugh at the 'they think they're smarter than I'...and they a retract in wording. You had me going there.

Love the images shared today Judy...and I too would much prefer jeans and a t-shirt. Anyday.

I love that train station...would like to see more of it.

And I loved your tale about the dress. I hate clothes shopping now, too.

Stephanie said...

Oh Judy, you made me laugh about the dress - did the tag really say that?!

Thanks for the lovely post and the beautiful first picture. . .it took my breath away.

Hugs!

Love the first answer and ditto for me.
2. None of the above, not for me. I am more of the puppy cuddle person.
3. Getting old, getting sick and suffering is the one I fear the most. I have seen it too much in my family. I am looking forward to relaxing in my older age with my best friend, my husband.

What a gorgeous sunset! I would probably pair that dress up with a pair of leggings underneath and a sweater overtop. A nice casual look suitable for any age.

Hope to travel more but not sure about discounts although I do enjoy them at the show! I really enjoy watching Two Weeks Notice. Love the dress but that is one strange label inside of it!

~Lavender Dreamer~ said...

The dress is pretty...I love that color! I would need a sweater or shawl though. Never heard of a tag like that and I'm not sure I get the joke. I'll read it to hubby and he can tell me! hahaha! Sweet hugs, Diane

Donna said...

First of all, that sky photo is downright gorgeous! Hmmm, I don't know about all those travel discounts you're talking about. Never, ever have I heard of airplane discounts for seniors. I wish! There are admission discounts at a lot of places for seniors, however. When in doubt, ask! And it doesn't hurt to ask before the cut-off date, LOL. The top looks cute and would be suitable on top of leggings around the house. P.S. I hate clothes shopping too. Would rather kiss a wookie.

The dress story made me laugh. First of all I miss dresses. I too keep trying to find one that looks good on me...not an easy task.

Thanks for the visit...Janey

I only go shopping when there is a sale!! It has to be 50% off at least or it's not worth my time!! Great Blue dress and story Judy!

That sunrise photo is gorgeous! I also hate clothes shopping. If I go to a dept. store, I start out looking at clothes (because that's why I'm there). then, I head to the home dept. I come home with something for the house and no clothes. My son already thinks he knows what's best for me. I usually just try to ignore him. laurie

Really enjoyed your answers! I am still laughing at the dress...I totally know what you mean and how you felt. That part made me laugh more than your joke. Very enjoyable post.

Love the fence. enjoyed reading your Hodge Podge. I agree with #5! I'm with you when it comes to shopping. Not my favorite thing to do. "Dirty is the new clean"? really? I better start reading tags!

My grandmother always used to tell my mother and my aunt that she and my granddaddy sent them to college to get an education NOT to act like they knew more than she did. LOL She would get so mad at them when they acted all 'knowy' about what she needed/wanted. I will be the same way.

I try not to go shopping, I spend money I don't have on things I don't need :-) I need to be inspired to go clothes shopping or catch a shop with a sale on to entice me in.
Before I saw the label for Shrewsbury station, I wrongly thought it was a Brunel (south west) built one. However this one is quite unique in the UK both outside and inside. It was the last major pick up point for the summer holiday trains to the Mid Wales coast.
