Where Christians Gather for Worship

Episcopal Church of St. John The Baptist
Wausau, WI

One of many places where Christians gather for worship

Here's a link to the most recent goings on between the Anglican communion worldwide and the American branch, the Episcopal church in America. I think you'll find it interesting. (article from Christianity Today)

I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.  Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.
- Romans 12:1-2

'Christians are therefore in the position, not (to be sure) of a new executive learning the job, but of someone who needs to stop letting the world around dictate its own terms and conditions, and who instead must figure out how to think, speak and act as is appropriate not for the present age but for the new age which is already breaking in. Christians are called to be counter-cultural - not in all respects, as though every single aspect of human society and culture were automatically and completely bad, but at least in being prepared to think through each aspect of life. We must be ready to challenge those parts where the present age shouts, or perhaps whispers seductively, that it would be easier and better to do things that way, while the age to come, already begun in Jesus, insists that belonging to the new creation means that we must live this way instead.'  - N.T. Wright, former Bishop of Durham,  Romans for Everyone

Have a blessed Lord's Day, everyone!

The stained glass in the front of the church must be glorious to see from inside.

Another beautiful Episcopal Church. I miss the red door on this one, but there is red on the notice sign :-) I am so happy to be a part of this communion. Judy sent me a link to the original decree from the Church of England, and then you gave us the link to our Bishop and what he had to say regarding the issues in question. Thank you so much for sharing what with us. I have read them both and am now subscribing to the news letter. Thanks so much for your sharing. genie

Beautiful church and those are a couple verses that I've put to memory and meditated on. Thanks to the commentary by N.T. Wright, too.

You seem to be at the same temps up and over there where you are as we are in Iowa. The building itself looks a lot like church designed in northern Minnesota. I think it interesting to see the original church founders are asking questions of the churches over here.

A beautiful stone church. I've followed some of the news on Facebook about the changes/differences with American Episcopal and the Church of England. It will be interested to see how it all shakes out.

Well, I guess I'll be the first to say what I think. the Episcopal church, which I grew up in and loved and would love to go back to but can't because of what they're doing, should be censured. It's more than just one issue, too. They've strayed far from Biblical teaching. For example, my mom's Episcopal priest says she's hoping there's no hell. Hey, I'd like to believe that, too, but I didn't write the Bible. The Episcopalians are picking and choosing what they want to believe.
I think the Episcopal prayer book (1928) is beautiful. I would love to go back. But they'd have to do a major about face.
Okay, I've had my say. :) Hope we're still friends.
Oh, and they have beautiful churches, too.
