Hodgepodge for Summer

Wisconsin River

1. Summer is upon us this week in the Northern hemisphere. Tell us three things on your summer bucket list.

In the front yard

Spend a day at one of Wisconsin's 15,000 lakes.

Spend a day at one of Wisconsin's many state parks.

Spend a day at one of Wisconsin's (or Michigan's or Minnesota's) many waterfalls.

Found online somewhere

2. Something fun you used to do as a kid in the summertime?

Ride horse, build forts, play football, swim at the creek.

3. Rooftop or backyard? Why?

I've lived with lots of backyard all my life, so I think that rooftop might be a nice change. This video was sent to us by our daughter from her B&B rooftop in Italy when she was there for language study last month. Why? I think it's obvious.

4. Do you read food labels? Place importance on them? Make an effort to find out/care about where your food comes from?

Always, always read food labels. If the ingredient list is long, I automatically set it back on the shelf. I look for: autolyzed yeast extract, modified food starch, monosodium glutamate, etc etc etc and avoid a ton of other poisons manufacturers and processors put into their 'food.'

West of Rice Lake

5. A song you'll have on repeat this summer?

Probably 'My Little Pony'

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I see that the videos aren't working. Since I'm away from home and posting this from my phone, which is a real pain, I'm not going to try to fix them. Sorry. Those church bells in Italy were pretty nice to hear, as were the giggles of the kids!

I read those labels, too. A couple weeks ago I was reading ingredients on crackers and it took me forever to find some without high fructose corn syrup. Guess I'll have to start making my own dang crackers. LOL That picture of the granddaughter is the best! What a cutie pie! The picture of the kitties made me want to just sit and snuggle and Tucker was ok with that. :)

I read every label on everything I buy.. for 17 months I have been a label reader, reading my way to a healthy lifestyle... agree with Nester comment about all the hidden sugars by other names in almost everything.. I have no plans or desires for summer, except for the time I spend praying for no hurricanes coming our way... I do plan to continue to watch the wildlife in our yard and back yard is always what I want. no rooftops, height makes me ill... your random thought is always my favorite... they are sooooo sweet

Your granddaughter is a real cutie! My Little Pony ... lol! I read labels, too, and usually buy repeats so I don't spend so much time in the grocery store. I've never tried posting from my phone. I can from my iPad, but am not able to include photos or videos.

Hope you get to do those things this summer. Good point on the ingredients list, it needs to be short. Enjoy the rest of your day.

My granddaughter and her husband spent a week in Croatia and now a week in Italy. Their pictures are amazing as well. Isn't it wonderful our kids and theirs get to see the world? As always I loved seeing your pictures from the river, to adorable little grandgirls to those sweet, loving cats. Have a great week and be glad you are in Wisconsin for the summer.

I enjoyed reading your podge. Glad you commented about the video and it's not just me. Enjoy your time away!

I added links to YouTube where I stored the videos, in case someone has nothing better to do.

Tommy and Smoky pictures almost make me want to get a cat. Almost, but not quite. lol Instead I'll enjoy your pictures, my sister's cat and the cats around our neighborhood. My puppy would not like me if I brought a cat home. lol I'm hoping to visiting some of our state parks and lakes this summer too. We've been to a couple already. Hope you have a great day!

No matter what, Tommy and Smokey will always steal the show! I love the old dilapidated barn pic...definitely one roof I would be staying off of! I hope you're having a great Wednesday.:)

These were fun questions. I love summer and have the best memories! I think getting outdoors is what it's all about. Enjoy your afternoon!

I like your summer bucket list! Mine involved people more than places, but I could use your list, substituting New Hampshire for the state name. We have many lakes (though not as many as you!), state parks, and waterfalls too.

Fun questions and answers today. We have a tire swing in our front yard -- much enjoyed when grandkids visit!

I always read food labels. We didn't do a garden this year, but have an Amish family that sets up a market 3 times per week. Gardening made easy.

Your bucket list sounds doable if I read correctly. I'm thinking of putting Niagara Falls on mine--I've seen at least five friends go there already this summer. What's up I wonder. Anyway, maybe it's just the thought of that cool spray coming my way. It is so oppressively hot here right now.

Awe your kitties and always your grandchildren are so sweet! Your opening photo is quite dreamy too! We are pretty lucky to have some beautiful waterfalls! Enjoy your week!

I love your new sets of pictures - your granddaughter is adorable. So do you live in Wisconsin - and did I know that? I knew you were north - but not Wisconsin. How far north are you? I have another blog friend from up that way and wondered if you lived near each other. Weird.

Love, sandie

Wandering off to You Tube. It’s early. I’ve already been outside painting. I have my coffee and my store-bought pop in toaster waffles with high fructose corn syrup so I definitely have nothing better to do... That is a wonderful photo of the grandgirlie and Tommy and Smokey are always so adorable together.

When I went back to Weight Watchers, I started reading everything on labels! I just about died! Now I read, trying to find the lowest fat and calories while maintaining a rather natural diet. Boy, is that hard to do!

Those two cats are SO cute together, but not quite as cute as that sweet little girl who likes My Little Pony!! A fun HP today!!

Judy, another fun hodgepodge! I love waterfalls, reading labels, etc, too. Been reading food labels all my life, thanks to my mother who was way ahead of her time. The only waterfalls I've been to in the area you mentioned: Tahquamenon Falls. Wonderful, but of course not as spectacular as Niagara Falls (one commenter mentioned knowing lots of people going there now). Happy travels!

I had to laugh at your song choice. If I'd thought along those lines there would be a few that I regularly sing to Nathan but the most recent one is from a children's TV programme they have recently started to let him watch called Teletubbies. As you can imagine it's very annoying once it gets in your head! Hope you get to check off your bucket list.

Judy, The best memories of my childhood , are the times I went to church camp. I love that more than anything. What a sweet little thumbs up girl. Adorable. There's those lovey dovey cats. :):) They make me smile. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
