J_on_Tour, George Gently, and N.T. Wright

What do J_on_Tour, George Gently, and N.T. Wright have in common?

Durham Cathedral.

There are at least four reasons I'd like to visit Durham Cathedral.

1. I'd love to visit all the cathedrals in England. I wonder if I could get a government grant to do so.
2. J_on_Tour has shown us some wonderful photos of the place.*
3. N.T. Wright (who is author of a few books on my shelves) was Bishop of Durham from 2003-2010.
4. The fictitious Inspector George Gently and his arrogant little twit of a sergeant are stationed at Durham and in one of the episodes Gently was shot in the Cathedral (or was it his shoulder?) Check out this link for an interesting article about the reaction to that episode.

*In case you missed J_on_Tour's post about Durham Cathedral, be sure go back and view his beautiful wintertime photos.

Fly into either of those, then take a train to Durham.

One photo showed the relatively narrow nave of Durham Cathedral with folding chairs on either side of the pews, in order to accommodate a larger number of people. That's always a good sign.

And I know, right about now you've become convinced that I all ever do is watch mystery DVDs. Not true!  Downton Abbey and the Jane Austen novels made into movies are not mysteries. And I do other things. Wash clothes, cook dinner, make soap, pet the dog, pet the other dog, pet the cat, pick strawberries... I'm thinking...

April Fools

There's something about the art of Banksy that seems like an April Fool's joke. It is so much fun! I had never heard of him until J_on_Tour wrote his post on an exhibition of Banksy art in Bristol.

One of my favorites is Banksy's take on The Gleaners by Millet:

Be sure to go to J_on-Tour's blog and read the post, 'Banksy versus Bristol Museum.'  J has some great photographs of the clever Banksy art! And while you're there, check out his other posts. You can always count on J_on_Tour to have interesting posts of various places in Britain with lots of accompanying photographs.

You can find more Banksy at www.banksy.co.uk
Happy April Fool's Day!

Have a great weekend, everyone!
