New 'bird' at my feeder,
enjoying a Cranberry Morning.
Before this little thief appeared at the feeder this morning, I noticed all those cranberry skins where the bird seed used to be. I wondered who had put the cranberries there, for birds typically land on the bush and eat the berries there.
Then this little fella ran up the cranberry bush, grabbed a cluster of berries, and carried them to the feeder, where he sat and ate the seed out of each berry, leaving the berry pulp and skin.
I was able to get this shot because he completely ignores us unless we actually go outdoors and make a lot of movement. This photo was taken through the window. He couldn't have cared less that there were only about 2 feet of distance between us.

Another new 'bird.'
This one quickly depleted the supply of bird seed and then
turned to look defiantly at me. See what I mean???
The red squirrels are not nearly as welcome at our feeders because they're so destructive. We need to keep them away so that the juncos and nuthatches and cardinals and chickadees and bluejays can eat.

I'm hoping I get motivated pretty soon to take down the Christmas tree, wrap and store all the ornaments, and clean the house. Maybe one of these really cold days (check out the temperature widget on my sidebar) will also be a good time to sort through papers and books and try to apply a bit of organization to my desk. I may need to build more bookshelves.
