Anglophile Friday - Yew Tree Farm -Yes, Another One!

www.yewtree-farm.com

Two weeks ago, my Anglophile Friday post was about a different Yew Tree Farm, (A on the map) not too far from this one (B on the map), both in the Lake District. That one was owned by Joe Relph and we discussed his Border Collies and watched a short video clip from a Nature program on PBS that showcased Mr. Relph and his working dogs in the Borrowdale Fells.

THIS Yew Tree Farm was owned by Beatrix Potter (as in 'Peter Rabbit' and 'Jeremy Fisher' and 'The Roly Poly Pudding' etc.) and is in the Coniston area.

From the website:
"Yew Tree Farm with its distinctive ‘spinning gallery’ is in the beautiful Lake District, in a stunning picturesque setting it is ideally located for all Lakeland activities. The Farm House was built in 1693 and is one of the most photographed farms in the North.

Yew tree was owned by Beatrix Potter in the 1930s and is still home to many of her furnishings, Yew Tree farm featured as ‘Hill Top’ in the movie ‘Miss Potter’ starring Rene Zellweger.'

(Cranberry Morning says: Penelope Wilton once played Beatrix Potter in 'A Tale of Beatrix Potter,' which we watched in the '80s? It was very good, and I actually liked it a lot better than 'Miss Potter.')

'We offer luxurious historic guest accommodation in the Farmhouse, you can take a break from the modern world and step back in time. Yew Tree is a working family run farm so expect to be surrounded by animals and take advantage of the delicious home grown produce."

A Look inside Yew Tree Farm (YouTube)

Watch for these video lines: 'You can almost feel the history seeping out...'
and 'bad lighting.'  (Could it have been much worse than what's there now??)
Anyway, it's a fun video, but I thought those two things were so amusing.

Anglophile Friday - Border Collies in the Lake District

A few years ago, Nature ran a special titled, Dogs That Changed the World. The most interesting part was that about Border Collies. The particular Border Collies were owned by Joe Relph from Rosthwaite in Borrowdale in the Lake District of England.

If you're a dog lover, I think you will enjoy watching this video. Move the cursor to begin the video at 42:30 and stop the video at 50:13 to get the section on Joe Relph and his Border Collies. It is a fascinating video, and scenery you won't want to miss!

I hope you enjoy it!
