Travel Ticket Pocket

You may have noticed a trend, that I usually write travel-related posts on Fridays. When I proof-read this post, I really felt like I was cheating, for it doesn't contain any maps or photos of exciting places. And I'll have to admit that 'exciting' is a very subjective term. I should say, 'exciting to me.' Still, since 'Travel' is the only category into which this would fit, I'm posting it now. I just had to tell you about it.

When we traveled to London a couple years ago, we took our son and our granddaughter with us. Because we all had Visitor Travelcards, it was imperative that they were easy to access once we were in a busy Tube Station. I didn't want any time wasted in fumbling through bags for the important and not inexpensive Travelcard, so before we left home, I made sure that everyone had an left, inside breast pocket in their jackets. (I suspect that lefties would need a right, inside breast pocket) It works so much better when you can simply whip out that card, put it into the turnstile, and then pop it back into your pocket. It's protection against theft and loss - like memory loss - forgetting where you put it! Or worse yet, laying it down beside you on a bench and then getting up to leave, being rescued only by the sheer courtesy of an onlooker who happened to notice the unattended Visitor Travelcard. Yeah, that was me once. That was in my pre-ticket pocket days!

So, since I wanted to put an inside pocket into the jacket our granddaughter was going to wear, I started looking for a good, sturdy pocket that I could cut from one no-longer-used garment and sew into the jacket.

Found it. Step One completed.

Next, I carefully stitched it onto the lining of the jacket. It made the perfect ticket pocket. It's not like it was important that it matched the jacket, so...

Now Anna had a sturdy inside pocket in which to store her Travelcard and train tickets.

FAST FORWARD Winter 2011:

My husband went to the closet to get out one of his favorite work shirts to wear.  

How was I to know???

Oops! That shirt looked old and ratty to me, which is why I used it.  What remains a mystery is how on earth it got back into his closet!!!  :-(

The moral of this story?  Don't forget Step Three:



Always destroy the evidence.
