Why Should I Gain From His Reward?

How Deep the Father's Love for Us

How deep the Father's love for us,
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch his treasure.

How great the pain of searing loss,
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the chosen One
Bring many sons to glory.

Behold the Man upon a cross
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers.

It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished.
His dying breath has brought me life.
I know that it is finished.

I will not boast in anything;
No gifts, no power, no wisdom,
But I will boast in Jesus Christ -
His death and resurrection.

Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer.
But this I know with all my heart,
His wounds have paid my ransom.

'For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.' - II Corinthians 5:21

'But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.' - Isaiah 53:5

Have a blessed Lord's Day!

That's one of our choir's favorite hymns.

Oh, Judy, I so love this hymn! The words are powerful. And the Words of Life that you have chosen to underscore the words of the hymn are perfect, of course.

My little granddaughters memorized and sang this hymn for me in their sweet, clear voices and it moved me to tears.

I love this beautiful old hymn. The first time I ever heard it was in England in 1992 then it became popular here. Thank you for sharing it and have a blessed Sunday.

From my favorite contemporary composers. I've been singing it all morning. Thanks so much. And just an aside: I'm still praying for your requests. Blessings, Judy.

A modern classic full of truth sung at a speed where the words can be digested.
