Wisconsin Barns, Treasures, and Good Fences

We had lots of family here over the weekend, which was great fun, and it was Mr. C.'s birthday yesterday. He's now much older, but still younger than I am. I suspect that's a permanent condition. And as usual when we have company, I neglected to take pictures of them. It's a little difficult to host and take pictures, particularly because no one really wants to cooperate with having their picture taken. Ever experienced that? I figure there's no need to deliberately annoy them. I can do that easily enough without trying.

I took these photos in late March or April of this year in the Westby, Viroqua, Cashton area of Wisconsin. I know, I keep posting photos of that area, but when May arrives, our area will be more photogenic. Right now, in NW Wisconsin we're in that not-so-pretty time of the year. It's the mud and pollen season. Soon those tiny leaves will be much bigger and more flowers will be in bloom.

The church at the top right is St. Mary's, east of Cashton. It's on a ridge, and the road down to the valley is steep, as you can see by the sign.

I think these are Herefords. You can correct me.
Near Avalanche
(SE of Westby)

But we do have daffodils in full bloom right now, for which I am so grateful!

Judith's Mosaic Monday will now be the last Monday of each month, rather than weekly. Thank you, Judith, for the opportunity to link to Mosaic Monday!

Judy, sending birthday wishes to Mr. C. Love the barns, but oh looking at that snow is chilling. I always told my sisters -in law to never get older than my brothers. LOL Blessings, xoxo, Susie

Hapy belated Birthday wishes to Mr. C! I know what you mean about finding it difficult to take photos when you are at family gatherings. There is much to do and lots of sweet people to talk with.

Lovely photos! It was a delight to see the daffodils. Have a great week. Hugs!

I often neglect to get pictures of the adults when we're together as a family. The grandchildren are still young enough that they don't mind, even if they have bedhead, but the adults want to look good first. Love the daffodils!

It's so funny about different parts of our great country in that we bloom at different times. Our Daffodils are done, our Tulips are done and my greenhouse is full of all the plants I have to put out in the garden areas. But and there always is a but--it is chilly and raining out now and I just don't want to garden in the rain. I am glad you have the cheery Daffs blooming for you now.

Happy birthday Mr C! Hosting get togethers and trying to photograph the event are incompatible and polar opposites for me too!
The church on the hill is beautiful and I loved the photo of the old machines.
Have a lovely spring week!

Wow, it's just morning here and I suspect we are in the eighties already. Your photos of the cool early spring days look so good to me. The daffs are my favorite flower and ours are long gone. Family get togethers are the best and yes, of course they all say nooooo photos! Love your post and all the photos. Happy Monday…….

you know i love the cows and the barn behind them, but not the fact they live in Avalanche. ha ha. love he church... yes, i have noticed no one wants their photos taken and i am with them. i try to stay behind the camera not in front... at least nature cooperates with our desire to photograph

I relate perfectly to your first paragraph! I could swear you had been at one of our family gatherings. (The part about annoying without trying made me smile too... I'm sure it's not as true of you as it is of me.) Thank you for the lovely rural scene and most of all for the wonderful daffodils -- a favorite flower that I've probably already (annoyingly) told you I miss because they don't grow here in SW Florida.

Yep it is a hereford. My dad raised them when I was a kid. Happy Birthday Mr. C. You did capture some great buildings here.

Happy birthday to Mr C, Judy. I understand about photographing and hosting events. Something has to give and it's usually the photos. Your daffodils are so pretty. Our's are long gone, so it's nice to see yours in bloom. Enjoy your day. ♥

I find the same problem when everyone is visiting here at home. It seems I can't coordinate picture taking and hosting!
Happy Birthday to your younger, yet now older husband . . .
Colors are bursting here finally . . .
Yellows in the dafffies . . . some Red Bud and other flowering trees . . .
Right now today, I can say, plenty of spring beauty!

Your daffodils are so pretty. I miss seeing them. I've planted bulbs before, but they only last a year or two here. Too hot. Bummer.

Judy, lovely photos! I am not surprised that Judith is slowing down with the link party...she seemed burnt out with it awhile ago which is why I stopped linking up. Times change :)

Daffodils and stone walls=great combination! Happy birthday to Mr. Cranberry. Funny about that camera. We also celebrated a family birthday on Sunday and no pictures to document the day. I feel as if I am slipping.

Judy, such a great collection of treasures from the past. Life sure would be boring if these things disappeared. I hope that you return soon, but leave the snow behind.

Great to see the smiling faces of the daffodils. Ours are still shivering as we are in a cold spell right now.

Yes our daffodils have come and gone. Waiting for other flowers to bloom. Very interesting group of photos.

Good morning, I find that most my family does not want their picture to be on my blog as I have been known to do that when I get a good one. But the flowers always will allow a good shot! Yes, spring time here has been windy and cold, then a hot day here and there. It is chilly here this morning. Glad you had a nice celebration for the Birthday fellow.
Another year to share and enjoy! And let's face it, one is usually older and younger unless your twins. LOL Hugs, Roxy

Lovely country scenes! Oh, I agree about the picture-taking...when you're the only one who is really "into" photography and you are otherwise engaged, no one else even thinks about taking a picture, and it doesn't get done. Plus, I am rarely in the pictures because, even at Christmas, I will document every opened gift but if I don't say "Take a picture of me opening this" they just don't think about it! It's so annoying! Especially since my daughter is supposed to be "into" photography....was given an expensive Nikon manual when she graduated from HS many years ago (hardly used) and now has an expensive Nikon digital her husband gave her two Christmases ago that she has never used! Ahem!!!!

happy birthday to Mr. C!
