Goodbye, Tuppence, Sweet Kitty

1. Tuppence:  On Monday we had to take our sweet kitty Tuppence to the vet for her final visit. She had lost half her body weight over the past few months and had developed a large tumor on her forehead that pushed against her eye and also affected her sinuses, apparently. I will miss her constant presence, especially at night when she would, every night, lie snuggled up to me, pushing her body against my neck for security or warmth (or just testing to see if I could still breathe.)

Tuppence will be buried in our pet cemetery next to the other pets who have gone before her: Tommy, Lionel, Bridger, and Misty. We have to wait until the ground is no longer frozen. Currently, the ground is frozen about four feet down. So until it thaws, she is waiting, wrapped in a fuzzy blanket, inside a nice tool box, and under some insulation so the sun doesn't shine too fiercely upon her casket. That would not be good.

Fun times with the grandkids

She put up with a lot, did that cat.

Pictured here with her best buddy, Lionel,
who preceded her in 2012.

Grandpuppy Jazzie, found visiting Bridger's grave 2013
(I kid you not.)

2: Tuesday: It was a very odd day yesterday. I accomplished absolutely nothing, except for a couple batches of laundry and enjoying the kittens.

Why am I putting this in a blog post?
Because I've mentioned Tuppence many times on my blog

***

3. Smokey has a treat in store for her on Thursday morning: I'm taking her to the vet to be spayed. Because she is so small, I assumed that I had lots of time before taking her in for that surgery. The vet told me otherwise. Evidently, I'm pushing my luck with a kitten six months old not developing some bad habits related to sexual maturity. After feeling a slight sense of panic, I decided to get her spayed as soon as possible, which is Thursday, tomorrow morning. So I will be dropping her off at the vet clinic about 7 AM. Poor little Smokey. Then on Friday morning I'll pick her up and bring her home, where she and huge, rambunctious Tommy will be separated until Smokey is feeling better and healed from her surgery. I'm prepared for several days of loud protest from Tommy.

Poor little me

4. I've been following the weather map and I can't tell you how sorry I am, New Englanders, that you are once again getting hammered with a snowstorm. Will spring ever come??

 Our May, 2013 snowstorm
How glad I am that we don't currently have snow on the ground.
We got 18" of snow in that storm. It was so depressing!

5. Some of our family were here over the weekend to celebrate our daughter's birthday. Here is a picture of her when she was a tiny little girl, before I learned about child labor laws. ;-)

Her Dickens-era Life

This is the most recent photo I have of my daughter and me
It was taken nearly a year ago!

P.S. Joyce is taking a little break from the Hodgepodge this week, but will be back next week. Consider joining us!

Awww Judy I am so sorry. I know it is so hard when we lose our pets. HopoSmokey will do great with surgery and recover quickly.

Sending a hug your way, Judy. I'm so sorry to hear that you said "good-bye" to Tuppence. It's such a personal loss when we lose a beloved cat or dog. She was such a pretty girl and a loving companion. I hope your sweet memories of her, and knowing you gave her a wonderful home, give you comfort. I hope all goes well for little Smokey. It's the best thing we can do for our cats. Lovely photo of you and your daughter. Deb

My heart just hurts when anyone loses a beloved fur-baby. Pet lovers all understand. Hugs.

Your daughter is as lovely as her mom!! Great photo.

Your ground is frozen down four feet?!! Oh my goodness, it has to be cold for a long, long time for that to happen. I am so "Florida" now that I can't even imagine the cold like that anymore. I grew up in Ohio and we loved ice skating on our Buckeye Lake, but those memories have lost their chill for me! LOL Putting plastic bags inside two layers of socks so we could skate all day....brrrrrrr!

I beleinve God put Tommy and Smokey in your life for a reason. poor sweet smokey. good luck .. glad you are not snowed in. I have never even seen frozen ground to more than 2 inches.

So sorry, Judy, to hear of Tuppence's passing. A hard decision, but softened somehow by the sure knowledge that you did the very best you could for her. I know how much she will be missed.

Happy for you that you didn't get snow in this latest storm. We have somewhat over a foot, I think, in our part of NH. The good news is that it should melt fairly quickly.

The picture of your daughter as a child is beautiful. Looks more vintage than it is. And the one of the two of you together ... just gorgeous. Thanks for sharing.

Awwww. I am so sorry to hear about Tuppence! It is heart-wrenching to say good-bye to a beloved pet . . . the hardest part of loving a pet. The comfort lies in knowing that we have done our best to give him/her a safe and happy life. (We fear that we are nearing the end with one of our cats. Yes, heart-wrenching.)

I am sorry to hear about your beloved Tuppence. To lose your pet is just never easy. We had soo many cats over the years when my kids were growing up and they always brought such pleasure. LOVE the picture of you and your daughter. BOTH beautiful ladies!

It took me a while to get over here to read this. I wasn't sure I could do it. I did but not without a few tears. I have promised myself that I won't go that route again once I don't have Tucker anymore. It may not matter, however since I'm not sure I'll be able to go on without him. It's so hard to say goodbye to a beloved pet. I'm so cold this week! We're going down to 27 tonight. We've been colder in past years but I'll take it since we haven't had winter at all in the last couple of years. The only thing we're missing is the snow. Though I do NOT want what New England is having. Yikes! Again, so sorry about Tuppence. Hoping the kitties have an easy time with the next few days.

I am so sorry to hear about your Tuppence! You really do love cats! I don't have one right now and I do miss that. One of my favorites was Maggie - she would drink her water from a stemmed wine glass. And bang on our closed bedroom door wanting to come in and sleep by my head.
Cats are so entertaining.
What a lovely photo of you and your daughter!!

I'm so sorry about your sweet Tuppence, Judy. That's the hard part of having loved our pets. They don't last as long as we hopefully do. Good luck with little Smokey. You are a good mother to your pets. What a touching pet cemetery. I love the photo of your daughter and you. And the photo of her hanging laundry is adorable. Stay warm and cozy. ♥

So sorry Tuppence had to cross the rainbow bridge but at least the kittens will help fill the void she leaves. Poor things when 'that' time comes but it's a necessity otherwise the baby cycle could start all over again. :-)
Your daughter probably appreciates that she learned to hang laundry at an early age. Hmm, well one can hope she appreciates it? lol Nice photo of the two of you.

Hi Judy,

I'm so sorry you lost your precious Tuppence. I love that name, by the way. It never gets any easier to lose a beloved pet does it? Smokey is so cute; we used to have a next-door neighbor for years with a cat named Smokey. She was a BEAUTIFUL tortoise shell color with long hair.

Yes, after almost a complete non-winter here in North Carolina (except for a good snow back in January) it is now bitterly cold here, just in time to freeze all the blooms on our flowering trees. Sigh. I love the picture of your daughter -- that bonnet is just too cute. :D

Hope you have a great rest of the week, Judy!

Hugs,

Denise at Forest Manor

Judy, I'm finding it hard to even write this with the tears that have filed my eyes.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Those fur babies have a way of grabbing hold of our heartstrings. Your Tuppence was precious.
We too are awaiting the ground to thaw so we can burry our little Lakota. He was our third house pet rabbit. We lost him in December after a long battle with an illness.
May your heart find comfort in the love of God.

Bless you, dear lady ♡

What a beautiful daughter who looks a lot like her beautiful mother. I believe in child labor so I will never report you. My grandson describes the day that I allowed him to clean the ditch as one of the happiest days of his life. Children enjoy work. It's a good lesson.

I am sad that Tuppence has passed over. She was a loving, wonderful kitty and you will surely miss your beloved pet's presence. And glad I am that you have two new darling kitties to love.

Thank you for your kind sympathies. I am simply buried in snow and to add insult to injury the town plows are going by as I type widening the road. They have my front lawn piled high with snow. Apparently, there is some concern for a weekend snow event and yet another next week. I am working very hard to keep my cheery side up, but if I go really missing, I probably can be found napping with the covers over my head.

so so so sorry to hear about Tuppence the other day. I'm so sorry for your loss. It hurts so deep and so bad to lose a beloved animal, you just dont think you'll EVER get over it. Love the snuggly picture of the youngsters! Such cute kitties. How is Smokey and do you have her home yet? Hope all went well, they seem to bounce back quickly from that surgery. Happy st patrick's day!

So very sorry to hear about Tuppence, CM. The price we pay for love. I grew up with cats (you know what I mean) and enjoy their independent company, but Mrs Britain won't have one and we're both far too selfish for a dog. Like the idea though. But Tuppence is better free from pain, though they certainly leave a hole when they go. Let's hope it thaws soon. On a lighter note, who did you say those two beautiful women in the last photograph were? No?! - really?!

It is so difficult when one of our fur babies crosses the Rainbow Bridge. Tuppence was a beautiful kitty and so lucky to be part of your family. Hope Smokey makes a quick recovery! I chuckled reading "child labor"!!!! What a beautiful young woman! Two beautiful women. Happy FRiday!

I was just looking at the pictures of your animals on your sidebar yesterday, and was taken with Bridger (handsome boy) and Tuppence (I love her name), although they're all adorable. I know you'll miss her company, I bet the kittens will be a comfort.

Oh, Judy, I am so sorry. These little companions really do imprint our hearts and when they leave us, there is an empty space and a sad heart. She certainly had a wonderful life full of love and kindness with you and your family. I am all too familiar with these losses lately......as you know. Such lovely photos of your little grands and you and your daughter. Love the 'child labor' photo, too (sweetness). Hoping your new kitty comes through her surgery fine and the 'separation' is not too unpleasant for Tommy (and for you). I think we are all anxious for spring this year. xx Karen

I am so sorry about the loss of your sweet kitty. Sounds like she was quite fond of you, too. Sad when we lose our sweet little friends.

We have snow here too in Michigan, but not as much as in the northeast. It has been hard to get used to again after having such a mild February. It's perfectly normal, but seems unfair after that warm weather!!
