Wisconsin Barns and Good Fences

This photo is straight from my cellphone. I loved the bright blue sky that set off that white barn, which belongs to our neighbors. You might be able to tell from the flag that Saturday was a horribly windy(and cold, about minus 10 F.) morning.

Barn and milkhouse
A barn like this would probably have been built with 20-24 stanchions for milking cows and maybe a couple pens, one for small calves and one for larger heifers.

This photo was taken on the same property, but I'm not sure what this little shed is about. Almost looks like an old corncrib. See the beautiful fence and hill rising up in the background? I love the rolling hills of our neighborhood.

Cupolas, common to this type of barn.

I hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day weekend.

Your tulip lover is so adorable:) That is such a lovely barn and property. Could that little building near the rad be an old milk house so they could pick up the cans of milk? Hug B

Buttons, it doesn't show up well in the photo, but the building is open slats like a corn crib. The small part attached to the barn is the milk house. The milk cans would have been in an enclosed space, not in something as airy as the little shed. It's cute, isn't it!

Cutest little tulip lover! And what a pretty view to have that barn as a neighbor. Brr it's cold where you are, and the wind makes it all the worse. Can't imagine what your wind CHILL was. I too appreciate the rolling hills compared to FLAT Illinois where I grew up.

In light of what I now know, my comment was unkind and insensitive. That child is adorable and to love tulips at such an early age shows great intelligence. Hunker down out there. Winter is not for wimps.

Lovely pictures and I just adore the look of that barn! It has been windy here too and a bit colder than normal for north Florida. Nothing like your temps though!

Just love that barn, so much more regal than anything you'd see in this country. And the little tulip lover - too cute!

J_on_tour said...

I'm not usually a fan of patriotic flags in pictures but that one certainly gives it a lift with the colour (sorry color !!) contrast to a different level.
Lovely opener too.

Fun60 said...

Love the contrast of the white against the blue in that first photo.

Michelle said...

Hi Judy,

I love the picture perfect white snow.
But, I don't like the temps :)
