Sorry, you may think that this is a bait-and-switch, but I have no intention of giving away the Red Cedar River. (You can check out the Giveaway below.)
I apologize to my dear blog friends. I missed Hodgepodge Wednesday yesterday, and have had no time to visit others' blogs. I'm hoping to get caught up over the weekend. In the meantime, I wanted to get these photos of the beautiful Red Cedar River northeast of Rice Lake, WI (where those barn photos came from in Tuesday's post). It was a beautiful sunny winter day. The river looked so blue.
I was glad to get that old square German-style house in the background on this particular farm. There are many houses like that in our area. They have a large eat-in kitchen, and the second story usually has a central hall that runs the full length of the house with bedrooms on each side. Very logical and symmetrical.

These are beautiful scenes Judy. I like the big old farmhouse in the background (and barns). Enjoy your day.
We have a number of similarly styled houses in this area as well; it's one I've always loved.
No Red Cedar River? Well shuckydern!
I love seeing a river that flows by all that snow on it's banks. Very pretty photos!
I guess you wouldn't consider 'selling' the Red Cedar River either, would you? lol Have a good week my friend! Hugs!
that river is gorgeous. stunning in fact.. I love the first one with the barn and house in the corner.. the way you described the top floor is just how the house is inside on my post today, a wide hall, maybe 10 feet with rooms on both sides.
Shucks, really, Minnesota is always ready for another river! Ha! Ha!
Judy, gorgeous photos, as always! If I ever make it to that area, I'd love to go inside one of those houses and check out that layout for myself. Sounds like something I'd like.
Lovely view of the river and the farm in the background!
Thanks for the reminder about your giveaway! Somehow I missed that post.
Judy, these are wonderful images of the river and farmhouse.. Looks cold there though! Have a happy day!
beautiful blue! love the old farmhouses, too.
Love the farmhouse and river !
Amazing photos. The house design sounds interesting, especially the second floor.
Judy that water is sooooo blue! What gorgeous pictures to share with us!
I love seeing all the wintry scenes you post Judy!! Here it is sunny but cold. And you are right about the Germans..they are very logical people. I am married to a 4th generation German!
Lovely photos. That little creek is running too fast to freeze!
That is a blue river, must be a clear day. That looks like an old, old house.
Beautiful pictures, cold but invigerating. Blessings Francine.
Judy, Those pictures are beautiful. I love how dark blue the water looks. I like the farm buildings. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
Lovely winter views Judy . . .
I have liked the sun and blue sky here today!
It's nice to see flowing water with snow along the banks. In Ontario where I live, everything is frozen.
It sometimes takes me a few days to catch up on blog reading so it's understandable when someone else does too.
Beautiful. I just really like these shots...
Beautiful river scenery!
Your description of the second story of the farmhouse took me back to my grandparents' home. A large squarish hallway with bedrooms on either side - yep, that describes it exactly! I loved it.
Beautiful river with the dark water and white snowbanks.
Hi Judy,
Your photos are amazing of the Red Cedar. I agree, it is a beautiful river.
Squeeze that Mr. C and tell him to pick me. :-))
Have a great weekend.
Carla
We have several of those old square houses around here too. They are my favorite type of farm house.
Love the open water with the snow on the bank
Doggone! I was rushing right over to enter the Red Cedar River giveaway! Especially after seeing your stunning photos. If you ever re-consider, let us know :).

The river is a gorgeous blue! And I love the silos and the shape of the barn in the distance.
Beautiful picures of the river... But now I'd like to go inside that house!
