In Wisconsin, the gun deer hunting season began this morning and runs through Sunday, a week from now.
The daily hunting hours (WI DNR) given for Zone A are 6:31AM to 4:32 PM. Because we live in Zone E (I didn't know this until I looked it up), hunters in this area are to add 16 minutes to both of those times. So, someone who lives where I do can hunt from 6:45 AM and must not hunt after 4:48 PM.

There are deer in our woods. Can you see them?
No?
Good!

It's the coldest opening day morning since the 1950's
and windy!!
So they go out there on purpose??

Those little buggers sure know how to hide on opening day!! I've only heard one shot, so far.
Wonderful photos. We have LOTS of deer in our area and the hunting season has been going on for 2 weeks and I think it ends on Monday. We have them in the field behind us nearly every day. Your photo of the deer on the hill taken from the car almost looks like 'our' hill. ;)
I hope the hunters wear their orange. I do not like to hear gun fire around my home. My husband says they aren't shooting toward our house.:):) That is a cold temperature. Brrr. xoxox,Susie
They are such pretty animals and quite a few live in our woods. No hunters around here, thank goodness, because we live in a residential area.
Aren't they pretty. I love seeing them and hate to think of them getting hunted. But, I realize they are too plentiful and proper hunting is a good thing. But, still . . .
I hope those deer read your blog and take your advice!
Great post ~ creative soaps ~ Definitely hope the deer survive the hunters ~ This world is getting crazier every day ~ (I know hunting is suppose to control the deer population) but I don't like killing of any sort ~ basically a vegan ~ rarely eat meat ~
Your photos are exquisite of the deer ~ !
Two in my yard this morning ~ beautiful!
Happy Day to you ~ ^_^ carol, xxx
We have noticed that the deer are no where to be seen around here right now...keep hiding little ones.
I hate hunting season.

i don't have a problem with hunting as long as they do it for food. and it keeps populations under control, too. i hope the deer are healthy this year as i know some years the diseases are terrible!
I had to come back and see how cold it is there. My goodness, that is bone chilling January temperatures. Brrrrr. Stay cozy in the house. Hugs.
Wow that is cold! But those guys are dedicated to their vision of getting their deer. Too bad we can't hunt here in the city though we can use a bow and arrow. We have had up to 9 in our yard at a time…which is almost completely fenced in. Just amazing. They come quite close to our house. But they are beautiful creatures.
Oh you have a very short deer hunting season. We have been hearing shots for weeks now. Isn't it cold? Very!
I hope all the little deer have found a good hiding place for the next week :)
Oh I hate to think that the Deer Re being shot T for fun!
I love to see the deer in the wild, especially with their fawns.
That young stag is so handsome. It's still relatively warm there as compared to here where we have been below freezing for days, even weeks and have a foot of snow or more. Wanna trade?
I hate the hunters around here. And there are at least a gazillion of them. When I see them on the side of the road with their trucks, it's all I can do not to run them down. Idiots.
I'm with you!! Run Deer Run!!
My dad was a hunter and looked forward to all the seasons for hunting. He brought a deer home, on top of our car, just in time for my birthday party when I turned six. I will never forget the sight of that deer on top of our car. :(
I respect hunters and understand the need to keep from being over-run by deer, rabbits, pheasants, etc., and I am a member of NRA and have concealed carry permit - BUT, I could not go out hunting for sport. Putting food on the table - fine. But sport hunting is not something I agree with at all.
Enough about that. I agree - run, deer, run!!
I hope they managed to hide! In Brittany, the hunting season opened in October and because my cottage has fields on all its South border, some hunters come too close to the garden and as soon as I hear gun shots, I call for the cats to come home and stay inside! It's beginning to get cold for Brittany (you'd find it warm!), so we don't have as much hunters now and the fields are bare, so they can see the house.
Oh yes- Deer hunters here, too. My sil did not go this morning. He opted for the Packer game instead. I told him he must be getting old. lol I love the deer and hate to see them get shot-even though I know they can overrun a farmer's crop.
Hope you had a good day. We woke up to exactly ZERO degrees here by the bay this morning. xo Diana
